Steps to Graduation for Graduate Students

STEP 3:  Submit An Admission to Candidacy Application

Time frame:

Master’s students: can submit after 9 hours of coursework; Doctoral students: can submit after passing the comprehensive exam; but no later than published deadline of semester before graduation. In order to process your Admission to Candidacy application, an Application for Graduation must be submitted with your Admission to Candidacy Application.
Required for: All graduate students
Available: Online at Masters Application/Doctoral Application
Submitted to: P105 Andy Holt Tower
Signature(s) required: Department Head/Program Director, Major Professor, all other committee members
Deadline for submission: Must be submitted during the semester prior to graduation semester, or by date published each semester in the Graduate Student Deadline Dates for Graduation: Deadlines

Approval of the Candidacy application admits the student as a candidate for the degree. This form contains the coursework that will be used to fulfill the course requirements for the respective degree as agreed to by the department/program and the student. For the master’s degree, the signatures also indicate the committee members’ willingness to serve; for the doctorate, the Doctoral Committee Appointment form serves this purpose. For all but doctoral students, the Admission to Candidacy Application is the only form that must be submitted prior to the graduation semester. Doctoral students must also submit the Doctoral Committee Agreement form prior to the semester of graduation.

All students are urged to complete and submit this form as early as possible.

Once filed, the form becomes a permanent record.
