Commencement Fall 2012

Commencement is a joyous occasion for graduates, parents, family members, and friends. We want to make sure you enjoy every minute of the ceremony without having to worry about details like parking and seating. We also want you to be well-informed about what a graduate needs to do before the big day. This Web site contains lots of information about the commencement ceremony.

Date, Time and Location

The Fall 2012 University Commencement ceremony will be Saturday, December 15, 2012, 9:00 A.M. at Thompson Boling Assembly Center and Arena.

Commencement Guest Speaker

The guest speaker for the Fall Commencement will be Chad Holliday, Chairman of the Board, Bank of America Corporation. Former Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of DuPont, 1998-2008. Under his direction, DuPont established its mission to achieve sustainable growth, increasing shareholder and societal value while decreasing the company’s environmental footprint. Member of the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Serves on the Board of Directors of Deere & Co, Royal Dutch Shell, CH2MHill, the Climate Works Foundation, the Nicholas Institute for Environmental Policy Solutions at Duke University, and the National Geographic Education Foundation. Chairman of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. Co-chair of the United Nations Secretary-General’s High-Level Group on Sustainable Energy for All. Past Chair of the Board of The Business Council, Catalyst, and the Council on Competitiveness.

Preparation

  In order to walk in the December 15th University Commencement Ceremony, you will need to come to our office on December 13th, and have your ticket made. We are located in room 202, Student Services Building. You must have a ticket to participate in the University Commencement Ceremony.

• Financial Matters
  Graduating students must settle all financial obligations with the University of Tennessee. The University is authorized to withhold diplomas and transcripts for any outstanding financial fees reported by a department of the University.
• Student Loan Exit Interview
  If the graduate has a University of Tennessee Loan or a Federal Perkins Student Loan, he/she must complete an exit interview in the Bursar's Office, Room 211 Student Services Building, before November 30, 2012. Please call the Student Loan Department at (865) 974-4497 to schedule an appointment. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
